"He's an old blind bear....alone in the winter woods...with only the smell of his breath for comfort. To mean to die, to lost to care. But show some caution....he's still the bear."
Used to see a lot of bear, particularly when visiting Yellowstone and Yosemite (Yo Semites?) with the parental unit. Later, as an adult, I became involved in long distance backpack trips. One time me and the soon to be Cindy T snuck into the Bull Run Watershed on a backpack trip, and came across a rather large and still young black bear. It was totally unnerving for us, but fortunately more so for the bear who ran away in a panic at full speed. We could hear him crashing through the brush long after we lost sight of him, but he was a typical Oregon bear and lived in fear of humans. I like the poem you posted, it's a reminder of the natural world we live within, and brought back a few long forgotten memories...
my first husband and I went to Yo Semite for our honeymoon...I got treed by a bear when I got between her and her cubs(not on purpose)...my husband thought it was extremely funny..which should have been a clue how the marriage was going to turn out..I miss Oregon and snow and mountains..
Bears are the reason I never went hiking in Alberta's Rocky Mountains national parks. Cautious people carry bear bells, bear spray and travel in groups because of it. Every summer there's at least one person who gets mauled to death, sometimes more. No thanks!

Bears shit in the woods, don't they? All the more reason to stay in the pickup.
they're scary...
good advice
I think you are too. I like this gem from Robert Blake.
that's why I stay away from people ..so they won't poke the bear.
